There`s a town in Canada called Kitchener, which was originally called Berlin, because of the many German immigrants there. During the war, they changed the name to Kitchener, after Lord Kitchener, because Berlin then had a bad connotation. To this day it is still called Kitchener, despite many Germans still living there.

Well German Shepard dogs had their names changed to the other one which escapes my mind at the moment. Also, The British royal family changed their names from the old German one which I also forget to the current Windsor. Although this was in WW1, but I think it still answers your question.
