Ignorance and fear, that's all. Just carry on being the nice person you know yourself to be and don't worry about the opinions of those who don't know you. Those who do get to know you won't care what colour you are.

I answered before but just thought I'd add a little extra. On thinking about your question it occurs to me that maybe you are TOO nice. Maybe you try too hard to please other people instead of pleasing yourself and BEING yourself? This often happens when someone is less sure of themselves and if you've met with prejudice in your life and been hurt this is only to be expected. Try to relax and don't let other people's opinons matter too much. You are a good person and don't need to prove it to anyone.

Think of things this way...do you realize how many of us light skinned folks want darker skin? How much time, effort and money we put out to be so...on the hot beaches...tanning salons...whatever? If one remarks "You are dark!", and you think it is meant to hurt you, simply respond "Yes, isn't it great...and the beauty of my skin actually come to me naturally. I'm among the lucky ones!" I could give you a nasty reply to such people...but that's not you, thank God...you are a far better person...and that seems to come naturally to you, too. From what you wrote...I think you're beautiful...inside and out!

first as 2pac said - keep ya head up! Unfortunately, we do live in a world where prejudice is ripe. But, life goes on and what YOU have to do is protect yourself. By that I mean, don't let people have such an impact. Do you know them? Do you really care what they think of you? Do you really care what they say to you? How significant are they in your life? Love yourself and others will love you too.

I, personally, have a different perspective of this. I am not sure what the intent was behind that statement, and the tone that they said it. If someone tells you that you're dark, reply with "so, what"? I once was told by a girl with a fake tan, "you are white". I responded , "well, so are you...so why are you so tan then? haha Don't be hurt, honey. Dark is beautiful, and we were born how we were born. I wouldn't be hurt. Just laugh it off! Let them wallow in their ignorance!
