It's pretty hard to get a decent job having been convicted of a felony. It's one of the reasons that alot of guys turn back to crime as ripping someone off is far more lucrative in the short term anyway than 5 bucks an hour at McDonald's.

Many who are released are on parole and have limits but there are some who have served their time and re-enter society and try to mend their ways. It really depends on why they were in prison as to how well they can live a normal life. Jobs are the hardest because they must put down that they were in prison or can be fired if found out. But once they put it down and if they do find work it isn't easy with people knowing your past if that past was questionable. sex offenders have to register and also announce they are there to give everyone a heads up as to their life of crime and have the hardest time finding any type of normal life. some crimes can be dismissed or forgiven by society under the right circumstances. such as thief or bouncing checks etc...

I have read of some companies that actually go out of their way to hire those with criminal records, in an effort to give them a second chance. For my acceptance, though, I'd have to know the age of the person when he/she committed the crime that resulted in jail, and the type of crime. Some crimes are unforgivable and some people are great liars! :)

Yes! My little brother has had this problem for years. Tho' interviews may go great and he be told many times that, as far as it looks, if everything checks out, the job is his. But, then they see "yes" under "have you ever been convicted of a felony?", and he never hears from them again. Of course, upon calling back, days later, he is never told that it was because of his "record". I REALLY feel for any convicted felon who does turn their life around, and can't get a decent job. And, I DO respect (the few) employers who are willing to give them a chance.

There are all kinds of felonies and it isn't fair to be all thrown in the same bag..I think evryone deserves another chance, except maybe child molesters and murders, but ususally murderers don't get out fast. I think it is difficult for most felons to have a decent break when they've done their time.

Just because you went to jail does not mean you have been rehabilitated. Your past is still your past, and someone who has broke the law before is usually more likely to break the law again. Thus, many employers figure why take the risk if you can get find non ex-felons to hire. Also, there is a tort called negligent hiring, which can make an employer liable for harm done by an employee outside the scope of employment if they hired the employee knowing of a propensity to do harm. Hiring an ex-felon is strong evidence used by jury's to find a company liable for this. So this further discourages companies from hiring people known to be ex-felons.

That would totally depend on what they were incarcerated for,The fall back rate for pedophaelia is 100%. Would you want a pedophile in your neighborhood or workplace?
