I suspect that you are reluctant to sacrifice that rare commodity, peace and quiet. Once everyone is "up" your day has begun and your schedule takes over. While you have the house to yourself, you feel at ease and in control, much like sitting on a quiet beach and watching the clouds float by as the gulls circle overhead.

I know what you mean. I love that time of day. The mind is clear and peaceful, free from the chaos and clutter of activity -- it absorbs the morning experience like a poem. That's when I do my daily meditation practice, absolutely wonderful. But in Zen, its considered that getting attached to that peacefulness is not a good idea, the challenge is to develop the ability to be at peace all day, through all the busy activities we're called into. Really being peaceful means being peaceful with the kids fighting in the back seat over who started the fight!

I would think that if you have "kids" that have to go to work early, they should learn themselves to wake up early. They are adults. Unless, they are still in bed 30 minutes before work.
