I don't think that people need God in their lives. If it were a "need," we wouldn't have millions doing so well without God in their lives. For example, people need oxygen, and you don't see millions of people doing just fine without it. Personally, I prefer to have a relationship with the Divine because it helps me to refine myself. I feel more fulfilled internally. I am more balanced, confident, productive, and content when I commune with my patron goddess every day. Those are my thoughts, make of them what you will.

Karl Marx once said "Religion is the opiate of the people." The idea of a god keeps us feeling safe and happy, because we convince ourselves that there is some higher being watching over us. Also, the idea of a god is one explanation of how we came to be. It's a lot easier to say "We are here because God created the universe and put us on it" than to investigate the scientific explanations for how we came to be (the big bang, evolution, etc.) Interesting question!

Some days I wake up, realize I need to go to work, and realize I don't have the energy for it. I ask myself "Why am I doing all this?" Then I remember God and everything falls into place.

It's true that not everyone needs God in their lives but most of us have a moral compass of some sort. Originally, religion helped to explain the unexplained (droughts, famine, disease, parting of the sea - tsunami?) and also helped to keep people in line. Then along came science, a judicial system etc. and many have moved away from God. Often, THE FEAR OF GOD; fear of not going to heaven or whatever your particular religion believes, motivates some to live the good life - don't steal, kill, sleep with your neighbours wife etc. Many also find that a belief in a higher power/purpose keeps them going in the face of great tragedy or just a string of bad luck. Regardless what your specific belief system is, mostly everyone does subsribe to some value set that achieves the same purpose: Do unto others as you'd have done to you. Those that don't; either don't care enough about themselves and others, totally lack a conscience or believe that having god in their lives gives them a license to sin and be forgiven. At the end of the day, whether it's God that makes you happy or some other belief, if it works for you - it's all good my friend.

As humans, we eat, sleep, and reproduce, but most of us are not content with just those things. We want to know why we are here. We seek meaning in our lives. We also desire a hope for the future. These deeper needs point to a quality that is unique to humankind, spirituality, or the need and capacity for spiritual things. The Bible explains the reason for the spiritual side of man’s nature, saying: “God proceeded to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27) Our being formed “in God’s image” means that even though we have been tarnished by sin and imperfection, we have the ability to mirror certain qualities of God. (Romans 5:12) For example, we can be creative. We also have a measure of wisdom, a sense of justice, and the ability to show self sacrificing love for one another. Furthermore, we can reflect on the past and plan for the future. Our spiritual capacity is most clearly demonstrated in our innate desire to worship God. Unless we properly satisfy the need to be in touch with our Creator, we cannot find true and lasting happiness. “Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need,” Jesus said. (Matthew 5:3) We must be careful, however, to satisfy that need with spiritual truth facts about God, his standards, and his purpose for mankind. Where can we find spiritual truth? In the Bible.

It's good and healthy to worship a god in a spiritual way but the danger is when the spiritual God is replaced by a God of politics and patriotism and who takes sides then you have conflicts that leads to bloodshed. Sounds familiar?
-
I have no need of god. As there is no evidence of god, there is no reason to assume it exists.

I believe everyone needs God in there lives for stability in there lives. People think that they have a good life but I know that without God its not as good as you think. People need God in their lives to go to heaven. And who in there right mind would not want to live in the kingdom of heaven? It is a place of love, piece, and everything nice. God is a merciful God. He loves everyone. Even those who dont believe,or dont care. He cares and wants everyone to follow him.

Most of us grew up with religion in the family. As I got older, I realized that I was wasting my time and money going to church. Everything the church teaches is aimed to scare you so you will keep giving them your hard-earned bucks. None of their teachings really make any sense. In the old days, they killed, raped and plundered to force their religion on poor defenseless people.
