I'm pretty sure he doesn't have authority off duty. Next time she says something, say, so? And tell him not to harrass your children.
-
Minor as in under 18. Legal to drive at 16. My son is 17. He approached my son outside and didn't even ask for a parent.

Yes, a cop (or anyone else for that matter) has the right to confront someone, even if that person is a minor. Would you rather your son be ticketed or simply scolded for his actions?
-
why aren't my comments posting? is there a limit?

one more time... comments not working.... i was behind my son... cop is wrong.... don't want tickets, so I'll just ask him to talk as a neighbor and not threaten with the cop thing... thanks all of you....

File a harrassment complaint against him. Make sure you have all the facts correctly ie:dates, time, who was present, what was said. Go to Sherriff/Chief of Police (whomever is his supervisor) first and make your complaint and ask him to do something about this cop. If you get no satifaction from him go to the States Attorney and file a legal complaint against this cop and his wife for harrassment.

Can he scold your son? Answer: Yes consider that he gave you courtesy and didnt write a summons for you "minors" actions and only scolded him thats what is known in Police circles as "discretion" if he stopped your 17 y/o driving miles from home, would he have to ask for a parent? Answer: No understand that driving is a privilege that requires you both aggree to and follow the rules and laws pretaining to the vehicle and traffic law.. one of those rules being responding to lawful order or direction of the Police.
