  • I think that church should be a place to worship, rather than a fashion show. So, yes.
  • Yes, God said, "Come as you are."
  • A Church who serves the Holy Father should allow anyone, no matter what they are wearing.
  • Dunno but I wear my churchpants to sweat so why not? Just kiddin'! Not sure why what you wear should matter to God.
  • isn't it more important that they are there. why does it matter what you wear?
  • depends, I'd prefer to see somebody in sweatpants but clearly there for their worship as opposed to somebody in a tank and shorts checkin out the other fashion statements in the row. but overall i thnk dressing "respectfully" for any worship service would be most appropriate
  • As long as you are there to worship the Lord, I don't think he cares what you wear. I understand that God wears plaid golf pants on his days off.
  • As long as sweatpants are neat and clean.. i'd say but somepeople cant really carry themselves in sweats, so it really depends
  • I've attended various spiritual meetings where the emphasis was on ATTENDANCE rather than what the attendee was wearing. But, I'd say "no" to sweatpants in church. A lot of church attendance is about respect and reverence for the "trappings" that surround the structure itself. In Black churches, at least, what one wears is a big deal. Probably safe to say one SHOULD either follow the prescribed dress code, stay home, or find a church wear...I mean WHERE...clothing is not an issue.
  • Of course. I myself wear matching sweatpants to go with my leather thongs, and who's to say one can't kneel in prayer without exposing the odd scrotum?
  • Honestly I think it is to each his own. God doesn't care what you are wearing, as long it isn't something with inappropriate language/pictures on it of course. The fact that you are there is what matters... and you know, some people maybe it is all they have... who knows.
  • I think you should be able to wear whatever ya want to church
  • I heard a description a while ago, that a church isn't a shrine for saints, it's a hospital for sinners. I personally enjoy dressing up for church, I do it out of respect and my recognition that it is a special event to me. But I don't feel it is my place to judge others who don't feel the same way or because of budget or girth, only have sweatpants to wear.
  • I don't think God cares what we wear to church. Some people haven't got the resources to buy dress clothes, the unemployed, the homeless.
  • I wear a jacket and tie when I go to church but if you go, it shouldn't matter what you wear. Just getting there should be enough.
  • Personally, I would never wear sweatpants to church... and normally I would say no, but it is commonplace at the Mass I regularly attend. It's the "youth" Mass. It is more laid back then the other Masses and I often see teens wearing worse things then sweatpants to church... I have seen people who look like they have literally just come off of the football field recieving Communion, and yet often it is the teens that are dressed to the nines that are in the back of the church being disrespectful and talking and socializing...
  • I think most churches allow you to wear what you want. However, I think it's disrespectful unless you can afford nothing else and that's all you've got.
  • I was taught to show God respect and wear your good clothing. The Church were I grew up was one in which people wore their best. This, however, can turn into a fashion parade with folks grading your clothing. Proper attitude and reverence, I don't think so. I think you should wear the best you can afford and in which you are comfortable. If that means jeans, sweatpants, etc. OK. Church IS NOT a fashion parade.
  • I think God cares more about what's on the inside of a person, than what they wear on the outside. If people are focused on what others are wearing, then they aren't there for the right reasons. If they need to change the way they dress, God can handle that one.
  • Its more disrespectful to god. The heck with with anyone else thinks, Your not there for them.
  • I don't think God would care what you wore to church. A bikini, sweats, or nothing at all. As long as your heart was in the right place and you were there to worship.
  • Yep, doesn't matter what you wear, just why you are there.
  • If that is the best that you have to wear then yes I would say it was fine. I was always taught to be respectful in the house of the Lord and we girls all wore dresses. My dad was very strict but now I would be more relaxed in slacks and a top. I think you should make some effort to look as neat as you can no matter what your financial situation and mostly people are just glad you came. :) +2
  • Do you really think God cares how a person dresses? If you are clean and modest I think He is happy to have you there. Now, the imperfect humans that attend along with you? Who cares what they think? You go to church to praise God not to impress imperfect human beings. :) Happy Saturday! :)
  • As long as someone acts respectfully in church and is "presentable" (at least clean) ... sweatpants should be allowed. No one should be looking at how others are dressed anyway. If they are, then they need to do some soul searching to see if they're in church for the right reasons.
  • Hmm, I noticed the earlier a person goes to church the less likely they are to dress to the nines. Does it bother me? No. You should be allowed into church wearing sweats, unless there's a clause on the Bible that says: No sweat worshippers allowed. I'm not going to lie and say, yes, it'd be nice if you put on some slacks & a dress shirt...but if a man who had a day at work in construction came in with his work clothes just to have a moment of prayer. I wouldn't say "get out your not dressed properly." Thankfully, there's no fashion police at church...
