  • Sounds like blossom end rot. It will get worse, turning black and rotting the whole fruit. It's caused by calcium deficiency induced by water stress. You should mulch the plants and water carefully, regularly. Plants generally need about one inch of moisture per week. Maintain the soil pH around 6.5. Liming will supply calcium and will increase the ratio of calcium ions to other competitive ions in the soil.
