In WA state you can get permanent registration (never pay again) when a vehicle is 30 years old or older.

A classic can be any age, but to be a classic, IT MUST be in the Classic Registar, and the last time I looked the only modern day classic was the 55-57 Thunderbird. Almost all of the classics are from the 30's. What most people call classics are classed as special interest cars, such as the 57 Chevy. It's not that easy for a car to be a classic. The term classic is very loosely used.

Ive heard 20 years. Problem is that there weren't too many cool cars around exactly 20 years ago, so some people might say 25 or more for good measure.

it needs to be a 1972 or older after that they got to big and all of the smooth body lines turned into hard sharp corners! So in my mind the 1972 chevy trucks and blazers had the last of the good looks!!!
