She told me to go cut the grass, rake leaves, weed the garden, wash windows and clean the basement. My dad would tell me to clean the garage.

When I was a kid I never heard the term bored...I was too busy doing things like fishing, hiking, building something, playing with my toys, roller skating (didn't have inline in those days although I tried to figure out how to do it in 1946-47). Later on I added hunting to the list and wore out several BB guns until I got my 22 rifle at age 9....bored!? I never had time to be bored! Oh I forgot my paper route I had to throw and collect for and had to mow the yard before I went to the movies on Saturday afternoon with my friends!

my dad used to go ttell me to go clean my room but my mom used to go tell me to go outside and knock for some friends or go find some one to play with.

As a kid she would get me to clean my room or run some errands.....as I grew older she would remind me that only boring people are bored. So, get a hobby, get some new friends, go out and volunteer, read a good book, change your hairstyle, write a letter (yep! it was that long ago!)...and clean my room, sort out my closets, clean out a drawer. Now I am in my 60's and even when alone or with nothing particularly to do, I am never bored as I have a library card, I love movies, there are interesting things to watch on TV, I can e-mail people, I volunteer, I sort out photos....and I clean my room and sort my closet and clear out drawers!

If your bored I have a lot of things for you to do. Now go out and milk the cow. Then feed the chickens & gather up the eggs. Then go down to the spring and bring up the water. When you get that done, you can push mow the yard. And after that, clean the windows. And don't worry I'll have something else for you when you get that done. And it won't be cleaning dishes. Not after the way I caught you having that hound of your clean them for you last week.......LOL

"If you are bored than I will find something for you to do" I think all of us kids only said that once to mom. We didn't want to repeat that phrase again.
-
When I was a kid I knew not to tell my mother that because she always said that she would find me something to do. I always knew that meant cleaning, or something equal to no fun when I was a kid. I was talking to her the other day on the phone and I said I was bored and she actually told me that she knew there were boxes I had in my storage building that needed gone through if I was bored lol

I learned fast to never tell my mom that. Whenever I told her that, I would get a long list of chores to do, and she would say, 'You shouldn't be bored for the rest of the week!' I learned to find things to do like putting on plays and things. Strange how such trivial things as being bored can open up a whole new world.

She'd make us wear porkchop necklaces to play outside in bear country.

-
When I was a kid we just used to go outside and play with other kids, so I don't remember being bored.
-
I never said I was bored because I was always working in the house. My parents didn't like any of us to go out! I think maybe it would have been hard to keep track of all 8 of us, or maybe they figured we couldn't get into trouble that way. You could have eaten off the floor in that house! We even cleaned the cabinets where the food was kept, taking the cans and bottles out and washing everything and putting it back. Sam for cabinets and drawers where we kept our pots and pans. I thought it was lame because they never looked like they needed to be cleaned. In fact, much of the time I felt like I was cleaning an already clean house.
-
I had to pick up all the pinecones in the lawn. I tricked my four year old cousin into doing it by telling her it was a game lol..
-
She would come up with house work for me to do. My mom was always doing something so I didn't dare to tell her I had nothing to do.

Go pull weeds and shut up or I'll give you something to complain about - I usually found something to entertain myself at that point.
-
Simply, "Go sit on your fist and lean back on your thumb." When we were kids (five of us) she didn't want help cleaning the house. She was one of those 'no one but me can do it right' kind of people.
