  • This is all I could find about her. http://www.finitesite.com/layne/demri.html Left this world October 29, 1996; born in Bremerton, Wa. on Feb. 22, 1969 and attended school in Arlington. Demri was passionate about many things and exceled in art and theater. She loved to collect vintage clothes, make decoupage, write poetry and play in front of the camera. Demri was well known and had numerous friends that she touched with her charismatic and enchanting personality. There were many people who shared happiness and joy with her in this life, so many that all cannot be mentioned in this limited space. Demri is survived by her mother, Kathleen Austin; father, Dennis Dougherty; brothers, Devin, Derek and David; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Austin; Uncle John, Aunt Glynna and Uncle Richard Lee; cousins, Brandy, Joe, Hanna, Katie, and Brian as well a large and extended family; her very special companion and loved one, Layne Staley. To those who always offered their support and love, the family would like to acknowledge Amber, Julie, Melinda, Mara, Sonja, Seth, Fabiola, Owen, Clay and Kevin Wilkens. A very special thanks to the Elmer Family, Susan Silver and Silver Management. An enormous amount of gratitude to those who always gave special and loving care to Demri, Harborview and University Medical Centers, Wedgwood and Evergreen Hospital. Services will be held Saturday, November 2, 3:30 p.m. at Neighborhood Christian Center, 5th and Warren, Bremerton (8 blocks to ferry dock). A Celebration of her life will also be held Sunday, November 3, from 3 p.m to 7 p.m. at 4745 University Way. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harborview Adult Medicine Clinic in Demri's name.
  • I was one of Demri Murphy's best friends until she dropped out of high school her Junior year...we all lost touch with her sadly.... We went to "Arlington" school its located in Washington ...a small town an hour North of Seattle 1/2 way between Seattle and the Canadian border. She was Very tiny. Petite...not over 5 ft. Dark hair, very fair skin..her eyes were a really cool bluish color..and would change colors when she cried. she wore very light makeup all through school. she was sexually active early in age...and would give us girls lessons on "how to" she loved to be center stage...could make herself cry instantly (just as an act) ... we would sing songs and put on shows pretending we were on stage, and dress up a lot!! There is a song I remember always singing it was Leather and Lace..I cant remember who sings it...I would sing the girl role and she would sing the guy...hahaha she was funny...loved to make things up and freak our teachers out to distract them...class clown! We were both latch key kids...our parents always worked late..She lived with her mom and Brother accross the street (in a little white house) from Arlington High school.. We would go over there and skip classes, once she took her moms cooking Basil(spice) I remember trying to smoke it in 7th grade..(she was in 8th) it was funny!...everything she did was with a smile and light hearted...We would make up little phrases and sayings that no one else knew what it ment..She was always about teasing and the Shock factor. She must have gotten into drugs in 1988 (my senior year) I know she was modeling in Seattle..doing hair shows etc.....my brother partied with Alice in chains, soundgarden, Nirvana,Janes addiction etc...he was two years younger then me..he would give me updates on Demri but our lifestyles were so different that I didnt see her very much after that. I miss her dearly Sincerely~ Karie I have a myspace if you would like to keep in touch I am going to try to reach her mother... kariesimmons@comcast.net (you can do a myspace search using that if you would like)
  • Demri Murohy was in Jacksonville Florida staying with a family friend in the Riverside neighborhood. She attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville. There is a photo of her in the 1987 yearbook. My name is Russell Maycumber at russellmaycumber@hotmail.com and I spent a good part of my senior year in her company.
  • I too would love 2 know about Demri. The first answer is SO tired though. It's her obituary copied word for word. It would be refreshing to hear from people who actually KNEW her, and about her idiosyncrisaties, and personal details, like how her and Layne met, etc. Even this last answer I read somewhere else. About her eyes being a strange bluish color that changed when she cried, and her being sexually active at an early age. I'd like to know things like, what did she cry about?? What are these phrases she made up that no one else knew what they meant? I guess she posted the exact same thing somewhere else, which leads me to think, she probably didn't know her that well in actuality, or she'd have something else to write about! (unless they were like,12, or something)cuz she woulda changed alot from then to the young, beautiful, troubled woman she became. She was definately a muse. I too am captivated by her enigma.
  • hey, there is a great demri (and layne) site, heres the link: http://www.divageekdesigns.com/demri/2009/02/a-few-memories-of-demri/ search and browse around on the site its full of info and pictures of her and great stuff in general. its a site created by a close friend of Demri and Layne and theres quite a few great stories, about them both. anyway, i wish i could know a bit more about her. this persons site is wonderfull, but you still cant find a lot of info about how they met, or why or anything like that, and nothing at all as to why they broke up. i guess people dont want to share that kind of stuff. well i hope you like the site =) Cathi
  • I went to school with Demri. She was this little waif who you could not help but like immediately. She was incredibly attractive, just had this smoldering quality - but I knew enough to see "damage" stamped on her (compared to some of the purer girls at school who I knew), so I kept my distance besides a couple of "fool around" sessions with her. She was pretty advanced at that young age (Junior year, as I recall), without getting into details. I was pretty pissed at Layne when Demri died, but then we all make our own choices. It was just that she had this vulnerable quality that you wanted to believe that it wasn't her fault...that she was taken advantage of by Layne and given a "hot hit". Obviously, none of that is true. She chose to do the drug, I'm sorry that it killed her and Layne both. I hear a lot of people talking about Demri's "mystery" or whatever. There's nothing to it, she was just this small town girl with fast lane dreams who ended up crossing paths with a great love in Layne, it's just that they were both deeply diseased people. They had something pretty wonderful, from what I understood from stories, but they threw it all away for drugs.
