  • Viral infection is usually a term thrown out when they really do not know exactly what yet doubt seriously that what you got is serious. Yeah sure, the could run tests and lab workups to fine out exactly which virus you are dealing with, but usually that is a huge waste of time, energy and money for a 'minor' illness which passes on its own. The flu is considered a 'viral infection' for normally healthy individuals the flu is a nuisance and nothing more. Unless you fall under special needs due to age, previous or current health conditions the prognosis of a 'viral infection' is usually treated with symptom treatments - treating the symptoms not the cause. I'm kinda confused as to why you are on no meds - the doctor(s) should have suggested something for the symptoms - either OTC (over the counter) or a prescription. something for the itch or at the very least an antihistamine (to treat the allergic reaction). Viral infections usually last 2 to 4 weeks (depending on the strain of virus and what it is doing). Most often the virus itself is killed out earlier than that, the symptoms (in your case itching) may last a few days longer. Call one or both of your doctors and tell them you need something for the itch and sore throat - either a prescription medication or a suggestion as to what OTC product to use.
