  • I never keep a battery longer than 5 years. If your battery is still good your battery wires may be bad or corroded. Either that or your alternator is shot which is a pretty common thing.
  • Just because the light is green doesn't mean that there isn't something wrong with the battery or cables. Try replacing the battery and cleaning the cables really well before you start looking into the starter and alternator.
  • The "Magic Eye" is really just a "Sales Gimmick" that came out at the start of the "Maintenance Free" era of Battery Development. It really only works as an indicator of the waters "Specific Gravity". Bear in mind that the "Acid/Water" is designed to eat away the metal plates & how much is gone or left has a great deal to do with how good the Battery is, & the "Eye" can't tell U that. John
  • If it is making a clicking noise it sounds like it could be the starter. Or maybe just an ignition coil.
  • It's most likely your battery. If you go to an Auto Zone they will check your battery and alternator for free.
  • Holy crap...I would change that battery even if it is still okay...that is SUPER old for a battery.
  • Usually the clicking indicates it's your starter. But ... your battery is pretty old .... I would replace that as well!
  • If the battery is questionable (which it is) replace it, after you replace it with a good new battery start the vehicle and put a DVOM on the batt with the engine running and ck engine running voltage, if it is between 13.5 to 14.5 V or so the charging sys is operating and you should be in good shape!
