  • The statistical factors are against you. Genetics may play a part in obesity being common in your family, but more likely lifestyle and habits help put the weight on and keep it there. Therefore if you remain in the same home with your mother then you will be confronted with the lifestyle, habits, diet and food options that she selects. If you are going to live in the same home with her, then staying in control of your weight might be much more difficult simply because you will be confronted with the temptation to make bad eating decisions and commence bad habits. Keep your eyes open and do what is best for you.
  • i think your chances are good if you are a strong-willed person. if you got to 230 pounds because of what you would call a "food addiction," then you will have to be very careful not to binge eat ever again. it's like alcoholics have to stay away from alcohol the rest of their lives. but, if you feel like you were never addicted to food, then keep eating right and exercising and you should be fine. if you slip up every now and then, it's not the end of the world. most diets fail when someone eats something they're not supposed to and then give up.
