If I wanted to see the country, I'd also want the freedom to be able to stop in places that looked interesting. I don't think trucking would give me that opportunity.

Why wait to retire? Ive driven for 28+ yrs as a "professional tourist" Seriously,Do lots and lots of research into different companies, and drive a company truck.. "If you want to have a small fortune in trucking, start off with your own truck and a large fortune"

As a former long hauler trucker, let me just say it's not like you're on vacation. Sure, you see a lot -- out the window, and it's really nice. Site seeing like a tourist just doesn't happen. Oh, and also, driving those things aren't quite as easy as it may look. If you're a company driver, too, the company pays for the fuel/mechanical issues, not the driver.

Trucking isn't really something you can do when you're retired, at least not when you're older as it is quite physical work. And it takes lots of money to do it. You really have to haul a** driving nearly all the time to even break even. Usually the ones that do best are the teams who drive, like husband and wife, definitely not retirees LOL!!!
