  • I know it sounds like an obvious question, but did your son create a password?
  • No, he just changed the name to his and logged off and turned off the computer. We realized the problem when we tried to use the computer again. Now we cannot use it.
  • What I'd do is stick in the OS CD (Windows XP, 2000, whatever was on it) and reinstall everything from scratch. But this assumes you have the CD, or can get it from whoever had the laptop before.
  • Try ctrl-alt-delete twice when you see the Cory selection. Type "administrator" as the user and no password. It's possible they left the admin account open and you can use that to change things around. Otherwise you can have someone with a bit more knowledge use Hiren's or the Ultimate Boot CD to boot from disc and reset the passwords on all accounts for you.
  • 1> Turn the laptop on. 2> While it is powered up, open disc drive. 3> Put in the CD you have with XP on it. 4> Close the drive, and restart computer. 5> Watch very closely for either F8 or F12 to enter BIOS Setup. 6> In the BIOS Setup, set the boot sequence to start from the CD drive. 7> Reboot, this time watching for the cue to hit F3 to boot from CD, and proceed through the very long reinstall process. Or... Smack the kid upside the head and tell him to fix it. Threaten with a full day of being duct-taped to a chair if he doesn't comply. And be prepared to follow through.
