DVD drive icon doesnt appear in "my computer" though device manager says device is working properly.problem arose after i used the acer elock facility in acer empowering technology.DVD light glows orange and summary gives value "none" to item dvd drive.

clock utilities are usually used to make things go faster - and when you do, odd things can happen. Silly question perhaps but have you tried using the clock utility to put things back to normal? You could try uninstalling the CD drive with the Device Manager and then rebooting - it should be reinstalled automatically and has anyone been playing with TweakUI? (a free download from Microsoft) Could that have a drive hide feature?
