Apart from the money? An iPod is Apple's version mp3 player, and is set to interface with iTunes to make downloading from this site easier. It also has some functionality, such as allowing you to tab tunes as favourites, etc. A normal mp3 player will simply hold your mp3 songs on a flash drive and play them in order (usually alphabetical). Is an iPod worth it? I don't think so.

But Apples iTunes are where 80% of mp3's are downloaded on the web. Apple does not advertise this, but they have a few annoying proprietary restrictions on their iPods. For example, there is a little known feature called iHandcuffs that only allows 1 iPod to link to 1 computer with iTunes. If you try to take your iPod to your friends house and load songs from their computer, you will be prompted to "format your iPod" so that it can link to the new computer. So you basically have to erase your entire mp3 collection on your iPod, just to download a new song from a different computer.

An iPod is an MP3 player. They are the dominant one in the market. They are made by Apple Computer Company. The name is attractive, cute and people love it. It and became another word for an MP3 player. The same thing happened a few decades ago with the "Walkman". People talked about "Walkmans" when they meant cassette players made by other manufacturers. Walkman was the brand name for the Sony one. I have seen more than one person who doesn't know that an ipod is some kind of MP3 player.
