The law has made it a taboo thing anymore but... when I was growing up, it was perfectly acceptable. I was in my teenage years when those laws came about and I was already physically disciplined by then. My parents grew up in the 40s and 50s and of course they got beaten even worse. Its just what people did. The world is so different now, that's the only explanation I can think of. The law has buckled down on parents, schools get in trouble if they miss warning signs so everything is reported... People are always looking for someone to blame no matter what it is, and no one wants that blame to fall on them. The law is vigilant now on that issue and people comply.

When some idiot decided Time out would actually work. Johnny got to your room with a TV, playstation and more toys than santas workshop and think hard about what you did to deserve such punishment!

i guess when you smack your children, they will do that to the next generation? "monkey see, monkey do."

youre right. as long as it dosent go too far as being abusive. children should know there are consequences to acting a fool. thats life and if they dont learn they will control you and smack you by the time theyre 10. then they think they can do whatever they want and end up getting assault charges and going to jail.

Probably around the same time people got over chopping off hands as punishment...

jehan that was abuse. no doubt about it. sometimes i deserved my spankings but sometimes i know i didnt deserve it. my father went overboard sometimes- i was the child who got to be the one daddy took out his frustration on. verbally and sometimes i got spanked for no reason. its hard to get over sometimes and even make your siblings understand. i got told i had an ATITUDE when i knew i did nothing wrong ans when i asked why i got inot even more trouble. so i understand.
