What exactly are these traditional customs you are referring to?

Jehovah's Witnesses do not follow "tradition", they follow the teachings in the Bible.

In my experience JWs only refrain from "traditional customs of mourning" if these somehow conflict with what the Bible says. For example they do not offer food, alcohol etc to the deceased, (things sometimes left at the gravesite), since the bible says that 'the dead are conscious of nothing at all'. (Eccl 9:5) We do: attend funerals, mourn, cry, send flowers,...etc.

For a Jehovah's Witness, death is a joyful event. It means that he doesn't have to go around ringing doorbells anymore!
