  • to determine the miles per gallon you need to know the quantity of fuel burned and the distance gone. The easiest way is to fill the tank and write down the number on the odometer and start your trip. When you arrive at your destination go fill the tank again and write down the quantity of fuel purchased (how many liters or gallons) and then write down the reading on the odometer. Subtract the first odometer reading from the second odometer reading to get the number of kilometers of miles traveled. Divide the amount of fuel by the distance traveled and you have your answer.
  • To check your gas mileage, you FILL the gas tank and write down the odometer reading. Drive to "wherever", REFILL the gas tank, noting how many gallons of gas that it took to fill the tank. and again write down the odometer reading. Subtract the first odometer reading from the second one and divide that number by the amount of gas you used.
  • We need the mileage not the time. If you want to go by time we need and average speed to approximate.
