  • If you already bought the candy, why not? Leave it in a container near the door with a note saying "PLEASE TAKE 1". You will never know whether the kids honored it, but remember most little kids, who go out earlier, will be with their parents and will probably honor your wishes. Either that or you'll end up eating all that candy yourselves!
  • Good for you John...getting candy for the kiddies. Maybe they won't egg your house now :-) We will be doing the honor system with candy tonight, as I have an interview at 5:00pm, and my wife will be taking the kids out trick-or-treating.
  • Believe it or not, the honor system is a lot more effective than most people think it to be. I saw a documentary where there was a candy store in some ordinary little town, and it used the honor system to sell their candies. As you can imagine most of the customers were young children and during the entire bit, not one of them dishonored it. I think you're good to go with just leaving the candy and a sign out. Most people know better and won't go crazy just because no one is watching.
  • You might as well try. Most of the kids will be honest. One thing to consider is how tasty the candy is. If it's fancy chocolate, kids will be more compelled to dishonor the system than if it were plain mints. So choose the candy wisely.
  • Oh hell no...this won't work, especially if you have good candy. If your working with candy corn, sure they'll take one...most might not even touch the stuff!!! The honor system, sugar addicted kids, with a bowl of candy? Hmmm... let us know how that turns out!
  • I do that every year while I'm taking my kids around. It's worked fine for the last four years.
  • probably not but watch from a window and if they take to many yell hey you inthe costume!
  • I do that when I walk with my g/daughter and when I come back to give out candy there is always candy left in the bowl. Just leave a sign that says take 1 or 2 pieces ..... please leave some for the other kids.
  • Definitely dreaming. If you put the candy out early you will castch the younger kids with their parents who (on the whole) will stop them taking a ton, however, once the teenagers come out you can kiss goodbye to all your candy. I speak from experience. One year we put a trash can full of candy out, when we came home most of it was still there. I came in and put the kids to bedm then went out to bring in the trash can and it was completely empty. There must have been at least 15lbs of candy!!
  • LOL im a 13 year old and i dont really go trick or treating i just go to the take one bowls and i dump it all in my bag. I dont believe that crap that they have cameras on you or that they r watching. The only thing that stops me from taking one is when a hous a couple houses down from mine opens there door, but not the screen door, and they also have a light on so it makes me think they r in the house. In that case i just take a couple handfulls. So if u want to stop candy thiefs open your main door but not screen door and leave on a couple lights. And when u leave a note that says take one dont put a bunch of crap on it about use the honor system, that stuff doesnt work, just say TAKE ONE
  • Use the honor system and put a fake security cam on the porch pointed at the candy.
