My five children have done this. I'm a grandmother to eight now! :) Being a mother and grandmother are still wonderful.
For myself, I am doing some of the creative things that I've always longed to do. I am writing a book. I think it's going to be great, as does my publisher. It's a lot more work than I thought it would be.
I'm taking a class to learn to paint with watercolors. I live in the valley of a mountainous area with oceans within an hour's drive. It's a lovely place to do landscapes!
I'm traveling with my husband. We have been to several countries now and looking forward to more.
I'm able to spend more time with my husband. We did go through his having had prostate cancer and a radical prostatectomy and my having to have a breast biopsy this last year. He's recovering well, and I was one of the lucky ones with a good outcome on my biopsy. (It turned out to be scar tissue most likely a result of abuse from my ex-husband.)
We do have our older grandchildren come and visit us for a week or two in the summers now. We have a lot of fun with that. Having one of the grandkids run up to me with their arms wide open, expecting a big hug, and saying, "Grandma," is almost as wonderful the first time they do this as it was the first time each of my children said, "I love you," to me.
    I'm enjoying life in general!

Im going through that right now. My kids moved out, but I had my grand daughter everyday for 10 years, except holidays, parents devorced. Dad and mom have joint, but I still had her all the time. Now She spends most of her time with my sons g/friends mother, even calls her grandma. It's the hardest thing Ive ever had to do. Watch that beautiful girl leave, I do think my heart is broken.I can't get over why my son would let this happen. He says he didn't. It's just the way it is because the g/friend doesn't work and watches her. I'll get by this, just like everything else, but I won't be the same, ever.I know she's older now, but she still isn't with kids her own age, she's with grandma and babies. Oh well, I love her regardless of "grandma"!

My parents put a pool in the backyard, built a sunroom, finished the basement, and got a golden retriever! Luckily, I only live an hour away, so I can enjoy it all! :)

I sold everything and became a truck driver. Instead of buying an RV, I let somebody else do it for me and I headed out to see the U.S.A.

It's been nice (since the early 1990's). We can walk around naked and since I retired, sleep late, do what we want when we want. We do take care of grandkids which sometimes slows us (actually speeds us up) down.

It will be all about me and enjoying what's left of my life. That's not to say I wouldn't be available to help my children in times of need or that they'll never see me again. There's a lot I want to do and see.

Besides maybe some routine maintenance ensuring they are doing well it would be time to look out for myself. I have a lot of catching up to do in that area.

Get a perpetual restraining order and establish a 100 foot marked boundary around the property!

  • by Yarnlady is happy every day on July 9th, 2008

    Yarnlady is happy every day

My sons were so far apart (16 years) that one year after my second one was born, the first one joined the military. Then he married and had three sons who I babysat and homeschooled. When they grew up, the youngest son had a baby, and I now babysit and homeschool him, plus one of my adult grandsons now lives with me. I'm hoping he will be ready to have a family soon and I will have a great-grand child to babysit and homeschool.
