Yes, you can have your personal mail sent to your personal address, or you can instruct anyone sending mail to send it in a manner which requires your personal signature for acceptance.

If you are receiving mail at your place of employment, your employer has the right to assume it is business mail. You are an agent for your company.

This rule exists for a good reason. Imagine if you were the head of customer service, which means all customer correspondence is sent to you. Now imagine you are fired. Should the business be forced to alienate their customers as a result of your termination?

If it was an inter-office envelope or a postal envelope addressed to you IN CARE OF THE COMPANY, all you can do is request, beg, throw a tantrum, etc., but if it is regular postal mail that is only addressed to you, then it is a major offense to open mail addressed to someone else (without a court ordered warrant) ... so calmly ask the office manager to either change the order or go to prison ...

Well, maybe. I worked for a fortune 500 company and our admin opened all the mail if it was addressed to "company name" regardless if there was a personal name on it or not. If ther was no company name and only a personal name, the received was instructed to have all personal mail be sent to their home and not the office. I don't know the law behind any of it, I am just saying what they did.

if it was addressed to you, really she had no right to instruct her to open the mail. I am sure I am correct but just in case, you could ring the Citizens Advice Bureau who will tell you for definite where you stand regarding your rights legally to stop this happening.
