  • Sweeping generaisations are not useful when observing large groups of people – such as citizens of a large nation. By the citizens the government of the United States is assigned the responsibility of accomplishing many tasks. Some of those tasks are done well, others are not done well. Stating that the government “screws up everything it gets it hands into” suggests that the questioner has already made a decision about which answers will be accepted and which will be refuted. In reality, among more than 300 million citizens in the United States, it would probably be possible to find opinions all across the spectrum. Some people want total government control, while others would want complete independence from government, and we can assume that every opinion between those extremes would also be represented. If you want to illicit even-handed answers, then put forward an even-handed question. That might be done by wording it such as: “What are some reasons why US citizens want socialized medicine?” Or maybe “What are the pros and cons of socialized medicine in USA?” As the question is currently worded it appears that someone is simply looking for an argument.
