Unless the burglars were armed or attempted to physically assault Joe Horn, its still just a property crime and not a shootable offense. Property can be replaced. A life cannot. Joe Horn will probably be tried for assault.

shooting WAS NOT justified. He had no right to shoot two men in the back for robbing someones house. first of all....taking tvs that aren't yours is a crime but not punishable by death. I think Joe Horn is a murderer.

All depends what the exact wording of the law in Texas is, concerning the whole thing. When all is said and done he WILL have to answer to someone higher up. I can't form an opinion one way or another w/o having been there. The media can spin anything nowadays. Yes, they have that power.

The shooting was not justified. He was told by the 911 operator to stay in his house, the police were on the way. He was not threatened by the criminals, they were running away from him when he killed them. He shot his gun in a residential area, which I'm pretty sure is another crime (it is where I live).

It's pitiful. I listened to the 911 recording, and I got sick to my stomach. It went something like this, but not exactly. 911: "Hello this is 911" JH: "Yea, two NEGROES are robbing my neighbors house" 911: "OK, we'll send police right over please stay inside your house sir" JH: "The police won't get here in time, I think I should stop them" 911: "Please sir stay inside your house, we have officers on their way" JH: *sound of a shotgun being loaded* "Oh no, I'm gonna stop these negroes before they get away!" 911: "Sir, please do NOT. Stay inside your house" JH: "Oh no, I've got my shotgun out - and I'm a good shot" *screaming at the robbers overheard on the phone* "Stop right there or I'll shoot" *Boom, pause, boom boom* "Yea, I got em." Disgusting. Utterly disgusting. The two Columbians (note: not black) - who were shot in the back while running away from Joe Horn (story corroborated by the plain-clothes police officer sitting in his car right there) were carrying $2000 worth of shit. So he killed two men to save $2000. Insanity. Oh, and thanks to the retarded Castle Doctrine - the two men were "threatening" even though they were unarmed (they left their weapon, a crow bar, in the house that they robbed), and they running across his yard so he has the 'right' to use deadly force. Sickening. Edit: here's the 911 recording, it's actually slightly worse than I remembered. Instead of "stop right there or I'll shoot" he said "BOOM! You're dead!"

Horn stated that he had the right to use deadly force to defend property, referencing a law (Texas Penal Code § 9.41., § 9.42., and § 9.43.) which justified the use of deadly force to protect property. He stated that he was going to go outside and confront the burglars. When they came into his yard, he shot them. Therefore, they were on his property at the time. Whether they were running away or not once they saw his shotgun, the fact that they came onto his property, by Texas law, shows a threatening action and allows him to act in self-defense. While I agree that property isn't worth a life, it would appear these criminals were part of a very large burglurary ring from Columbia. I think it's sad that as American citizens, we are told to "stay out of it" when a crime is occuring. The fact that criminals appear to have more rights than citizens attempting to do the right thing saddens me. But I think all thieves need to be shot anyway. Our society has no use for thieves, whatsoever. It's just my opinion, and I'm sure I'm gonna get some DR's for this. But it's okay. I was asked if I thought it was justified, and... well, there's my answer to the question.
