You know you can't say that on AB!! You can't slam the leftists without being called all sorts of names. It will take a Republican President to drill on US soil. It will take a Republican President to allow the building of more nuclear plants. ** Before I got done posting the first answer, this question got a -2!! Thanks for living up to the "tolerance" requirements of the left!

There is no such thing as a tree hugger,it is just label to put on someone you disagree with.Drilling for oil off the coast and in the arctic could be disastrous and has happened many times. So with this danger to the environment, and I mean a real danger,it is not worth the risk.Just use alternative energy.

I heard on the news the other day that the American tree huggers want to boycott Alberta oil. What the hell for. God!!

while the strategic reserves sit there in enormous quantities....The US gov't is so far up the Saudi's asses that you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. Oil in the US hasn't meant much for a long time, and the current president is the perfect example. If he wanted local oil, he just take it. Loving trees is not wrong, either, by the way. Not everyone who is an environmentalist is the stupid hippie you make them out to be.

As a short term solution, increased oil exploration in the U.S. may relieve the petroleum refineries profiteering and it may not. Of course, burning fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, etc. leads to worsening greenhouse pollutants and increased ozone depletion. Another solution, on the long term end of the spectrum, involves sustainable energy, such as solar and wind power (nb: that which would not damage the ozone). In summary, there are no simple answers, just complex realities. One book that I would recommend is "The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight" by Thom Hartmann. Where are you getting the having more oil than the entire middle east from? I am a geophysicist working in oil exploration (on a seismic vessel as I type this answer) and that statement is just plain wrong.

The tree huggers never will. We only have to hope that as time goes on we have a smaller percentage of tree huggers. As much as I am against the illegals this is one positive thing that they are doing.
