Yes, before "electrics" came out! Never got very good at it.
-
I remember taking that awful typing class in high school with those blue ibm electric typewriters and having to use those white strips to correct mistakes. And the typing teacher, instead of saying "error" it sounded more like "arra".
-
I don't think so :|
-
I took a required typing class in high school. Our term papers had to be type written and computers were not quite a household item at that time.
-
Oh sure I have. I took typing in high school and college. I even used to own an electric typewriter, but it was cheap-o model. I finally got rid of it. I can't recall the last time I used one. I think it was back in college when I had to write a paper. And I recall being jealous of some other students who had word processors! Now...who even has a word processor or ever used one of those?
-
I've still got a non-electric typewriter or two kicking around the house, boxed up in the basement I think. My uncle sent them up for us to use from Conn. where he used to repair them for a living. I keep all the old stuff(packrat!)
-
Yes. It is where I learned to touch type.
-
If you have asked and anwered this question, you have used a typewriter.
-
Your youth is showing, my friend. Yep..BC..before computers. In the way way way long ago ancient olden days of my youth, typewriters were the only game in town..furthermore, if you wanted extra copies you had to use carbon paper in-between the sheets..if you needed 7 copies you had an original with 7 sheets of paper and 7 sheets of carbon paper interspersed..if you made an error, well, people did a lot of swearing in the olden days! I took a class in high school..I owned several of them..I typed on them for years! :)

Sorry double posted :(

Yes but I couldn't figure out how to plug it in so I chucked it.

-
Oh back years ago in school we had to use them oh I hated it !
-
yeah, I had an electric typewriter at home and I would write out stories.
-
Yes, I have. I think that typewriters are much more romantic than computers for creative writing, and I would love to have one of my very own!
-
Yeppers.
-

-
Yes I have both electric and non .
-
For much of my life. I typed many a report and term paper on them. The last ones in grad school. I got my first pc in 1985 and good bye typewriter. I learned on a non electric manual. Got so I could type over 60 words per minute without error. My 5 minute time was more like 55 or so without error. Really hard and exacting work.
-
Yes. manual and electric. It was a required class at my high school.
-
Indeed I have...old ones and new ones! :)
-
I grew up with typewriters and records, but it quickly changed to 8-tracks however.
-
yeah....i have 2 at home....haha!
-
Yes, I had to for my Jr. High School reports because at the time we were too poor to afford a computer.
-
I wish I had an IBM Selectric electric typewriter now. I was in office work when "who was getting the next electric typwriter" had a lot to do with the status of the position.
-
I took 2 years of typing in school...I remember getting a word processor for graduation. It was so cool! My how times have changed. :)
-
Yes ... ... old fully manual ones ... then electric assist ones ... then the IBM Selectric ... then old military teletype ... then huge mainframe computers with vacuum tubes, punch cards, and daisy wheel printers ... then an Apple II+ with a 300 baud modem ... then a 486 with the original Word Perfect software ... and after several more upgrades, I am now using a modern computer and modern word processing software ...
-
Seen, but haven't touched.
-
Yep!
-
Still do. I have a number of typewriters and use both electric and manual.
-
I used one last year. They survive EMP's---unlike computers.
-
Sure have. i used to use my grandmother's all the time.
-
Yes, in my first year in college because we hadn't bought a computer at that time. I still use typewriters now, when power is out, or when the ink in the printer runs out.
