Yes. Studies of hearing loss among headphone users has shown that there will be damage due to the proximity of the speakers to the eardrum and the volume of the music played.

if you ever hear that beeping sound in your ears after listening to music or loud noise: thats that wavelength that is diyng off. after that you will never hear that tone again, ever. so if you hear that beeeping sound a lot you wil be deaf soon, and otherwise i think its ok.

Keep the volume down. On my video ipod I can barely see the volume bar. it's that low and I can still hear it perfectly. If you are sitting in a quiet room listening to them at a low volume (make sure no one across the room can hear every word) then you should be relatively fine. If you are sitting in a loud area (train station, bus stop downtown, construction site, etc) then you will turn the volume up to be able to hear it. This is where the problem comes in. Don't spend too much time with the volume cranked up. You won't go deaf if you treat your ears nicely but if you (like I see so much...) listen to it at max volume, then you're due for hearing loss. Good Luck, Hope this helps
