No, because the rotation of the earth is what stabilizes its orientation in space, in the way that a gyroscope is stabilized by rotation. If the earth's rotation slowed enough, it would begin to wobble and rotate on other axes. The moon rotates just like the earth does (and for all we know, the sun too, though we don't have stationary landmarks on it to judge by). However, its period of rotation is the same as its period of revolution around the earth, i.e. about 28 days. Thus, as it revolves around the earth it also rotates in such a manner that the same side is always facing earthward. If the moon did not rotate at all, we would see the entire surface as it revolved around the earth. It's slightly difficult to visualize, with the earth revolving the sun and rotating while the moon revolves around earth and is also rotating. A mechanical model really helps.

Yes, given enough time, Earth will become tidally locked on the Moon. Just as it is locked on Earth. However, as Earth's rotation is slowing, angular momentum (rotational energy) is being transfered to the Moon. This is causing the Moon to slowly spiral further out from Earth. As the radius of the Moon's orbit increases, its period (the time it take to complete an orbit) increases. The result is that by the time Earth becomes locked on the Moon, the time that it takes the Moon to complete an orbit will be something greater than 655.2 hours (27.3 "days"). However, this is not where the story ends. The Sun also causes tides on Earth. So, Earth's rotational velocity will continue to slow. As Earth's rotation slows, the Moon induced tides will cause the Moon to stop moving away and cause it to start moving back toward Earth. If this is allowed to continue, then eventually the Moon will be drawn in so close that tidal stresses caused by Earth's gravity will tear the Moon apart. This will give Earth a ring. I haven't run the numbers on any of this. So, I don't know just how long all of this will take. I would be interested in having someone actually post how long it will be before each of these things will happen.

I'M THINKING THAT ONCE MY TEAMS AND I DELETE GLOBAL WARMING THAT EARTH'S ROTATION IS THE TRIGGER FOR THE WEAKENING OF THE OZONE AT PRESENT, BUT BY DELETING GLOBAL WARMING PERMANENTLY, IT SHOULD ALLOW EARTH'S ROTATION TO RETURN TO NORMAL. HAVE A NICE DAY. MIKE
