Great question! I have this problem every day. My stomach seems to growl bang on at a certain time, guaranteed to be when the room I'm in is packed with people and in silence. I share your anguish! The only way I've found, is to (as you say) eat something, or to squeeze your stomach in very tightly when you feel a growl coming on, and then let go, then squeeze it in and so on. It takes practice, and it doesn't completely stop the growling, it just postpones it a bit. But sometimes I find postponing them is better than nothing!

This happens to my mother in church because she always forgets to eat something beforehand so when she feels her stomach start to growl she signals me and I pretend to have a coughing fit. Sometimes I work in anything from a sneeze to some noisy turning of Bible pages to maybe a sudden overwhelming of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues and convulsing. All this to save her some embarassment sheesh. I suggest getting a resourceful noisemaking buddy to go with you everywhere.

This problem tends not to occur if you practice food combining, i.e. not eating protein and starch in the same meal. Has lots of health benefits also. Ref."bible" "Food combining for Health" by Doris Grant and Jean Joice Give it a try!
