400 cal a day is not stupid but unhealthy if you were not eating anything nutritional. I tried 500 cal a day before and it really works for short term weight loss. I was eating only fruits and salads. This is healthy and a good way to detox your body as well. I recommend you to eat fresh or dried fruits and fat free yogurt in the morning with freshly squeezed fruit orange or apple juice. For lunch, go for salmon or tuna with salad and 1 slice of brown bread. Lean chicken is also good if you do not want to eat red meat because it is too fatty. Beans,brown rice and whole meal bread are also very good. For dinner, fruit salad or fresh vegetable salad with apple cider vinegar will help for a good digestion. virgin olive oil is good for salads. I do not recommend eating after 6 pm. For snacks betwen meals, try dried fruits and nuts (almonds are best).

BALANCE is the key. Learn how to eat healthy, balanced meals in portions sufficient for your daily requirements. If you haven't done so already, incorporate an active lifestyle into your daily regimen. And if you have problems or quesitons about what 'healthy, balanced meals' means, then get with a nutritionist or your doctor. Ths short if it, though, is to eat food from all the food groups and not to slew your intake towards any one thing in excess (like carbs or proteins). Good luck!
