  • Sometimes you need to just * do nothing*. Go for a walk - alone. Sit with your thoughts. Be silent. We spend so much time doing things and entertaining ourselves. Sometimes we should just give our brains a break. You will be amazed at how refreshing it can be.
  • Dumpster diving
  • Catch fireflies at night or butterflies during the day.
  • I would perhaps go venturing out with no particular destination in mind. Where on holiday are you? I've often gone with camera in bag (wife and I are both avid photographers) and just picked a spot on a map. Sometimes, there will be a place en route that turns out to be a much better destination and surprise than the original. Granted, this had also had me walking down alley ways in Hong Kong and being surrounded by a pack of about 15 dogs (there were two of us so all I had to do was be faster at hobbling him while I made my less than dashing escape :o) I've also ended up being stopped by the Minister of Defense in Bahrain. There were three of us walking to an old fort and to get to it, we went through a low income part of the city. A month prior, a BBC crew was filming all sorts of grafitti which was less than positive towards the government. As soon as he realized we were just Marines off one of the ships in the harbor and my camera was for sightseeing, he visibly relaxed. He also insisted in a polite yet firm way to allow him and his very large driver/body guard to give us a ride to the fort from that point. We of course graciously accepted... I also took the subway in Singapore for fun and would randomly pop up at various stops to see where in the city I was. It was very very interesting. So, I would say, venture out with camera in hand and see what comes before you. You can see some of my pics if you like. I'm always open to critiquing. • Take a nice long walk. Mow a lawn for a neighbor (surprise them), volunteer at your local political campaign office, visit a museum on free day, play in the sprinklers.
