  • There are two approaches to deciding which books belong in the Bible and which don't. There is the Catholic/Orthodox approach, in which the man on top, after consulting with the church, set what's called the canon. (Standard of inclusion.) The Protestant approach--and I've done a little research on the subject--was that millions of people in dozens of countries over more than nineteen centuries have independently looked at the evidence and agreed that the books which are actually in the Bible are self-authenticating as the word of God, and those that aren't there, aren't there for various good reasons. I've read most of the deuterocanonical books and they did nothing to change my religion. They just aren't on the same level as Bible books.
