  • If people have second thoughts about their comments, they'll do that. Sometimes they decide their response was just dumb once they see it in print, or it doesn't come across the way they meant it to. Perhaps they were being sarcastic, but sarcasm just doesn't translate. There's also the aspect when it comes to religious discussions to find they can't adequately convey their understanding or don't have any references they can provide. Rather than get dumped on by others, start an argument, or come across as opinionated and nonsensical, it's just easier to back the comment out and let things lay where they are.
  • Maybe you should just answer the question they are asking and not go off on a tangent about something completely and utterly off topic, simple as that...
