http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/index.php/Income_tax the 16th amendment of the constitution In 1913, the Sixteenth Amendment (http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.amendmentxvi.html) to the U.S. Constitution was ratified. It empowered Congress to tax "incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." The Internal Revenue Code is today embodied as Title 26 of the United States Code ( 26 U.S.C.) and is a lineal descendant of the income tax act passed in 1913, following ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment. While some states do not have an income tax (Nevada), all residents and all citizens of the United States are subject to the federal income tax. Not everyone, however, must file a return. The requirements for filing are found in 26 U.S.C. § 6011. As the largest contributor, its purpose is to generate revenue for the federal budget. In 1985 for example, the government collected over $450 billion in income tax from a total of $742 billion in total internal revenue receipts. The funds collected are essential for the shaping and preservation of a free market economy. Some terms are essential in understanding income tax law. "Gross income" can be generaly defined as "all income from whatever source derived;" a more complete definition is found in 26 U.S.C. § 61. Other important definitions like "taxable income" and "adjusted gross income" can also be found in Chapter I of Title 26. These terms are not fixed nor should anyone be confident in understanding their true meaning after a cursory reading because their imputed definitions change with time. The Supreme Court, through case law, demonstrates the changing meaning of taxable income. Individuals are not the only ones required to file income tax returns. Corporations do as well. While they are subject to may of the same rules as are individual taxpayers, they are also covered by an intricate body of rules addressed to the peculiar problems of corporations. there is no law. no can find it. have you watched aaron russo's film on america? the 16 amendment talks about profits not wages earned.
-
watch the movie freedom to fascism. I'm not saying believe everything you see or hear but learn to think for yourself and do you own research. there is alot of lies within the government... they are people to right?

The tax law is found in Title 26 of the United States Code. Section 6012 of the Code makes clear that only individuals whose income falls below a specified level do not have to file returns. Courts have historically held there are no Constitutional or legal grounds for failure to file tax returns and failure to pay taxes. The United States Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 1, states “The Congress shall have the Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States.”

A law doesnt exist: http://www.freedomtofascism.com/

In Canada, the Income Tax Act requires that residents pay income tax. I will research other taxes, if you like. http://www.canlii.org/ca/sta/i-3.3/sec2.html --- The question did not specify which country's federal taxes were being asked for; AB has users all over the world, so I answered for Canada in case the questioner lives here.
-
I can't cite the actual law that specify what taxes are to be paid to the federal government, but the authority to levy taxes in general is given in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution (http://www.archives.gov/national-archives-experience/charters/constitution_transcript.html) and the authority to specifically collect income taxes is granted by the 16th amendment to the Constitution (http://www.archives.gov/national-archives-experience/charters/constitution_amendments_11-27.html). So, those that claim that the federal government does not have the authority to levy taxes on us do not know what they are writing about. The Constitution specifically gives the government the right to collect taxes from us.

Havin read the other answers I have to agree with anglckx answer. The 16th amendment was never ratified by the states and has no basis in any law. Americans can refuse to fill out a 1040 form, perfectly legally. Incidentally, the Federal Reserve is not a government institution, but a private enterprise, into which tax payers pay wealthy bankers, for the right for them to produce paper money. Anyone else think this is a little odd.
-
Probably not.

If you want to find out the realities of the Federal Tax (income or otherwise) I suggest you either contact a tax attorney or a tax CPA. Or if you want to learn the hard way-don't file and/or pay. Everybody like a little ass but nobody likes a smart ass.

http://www.paynoincometax.com/chapter1.htm "no provision of the Internal Revenue Code requires anyone to file or pay income taxes. This tax, unlike other internal revenue taxes, is strictly (censored/voluntary). This is because a compulsory income tax would violate the Constitution's three taxing clauses, the Bill of Rights and the 16th Amendment-all of which impose restrictions on the government's power and ability to tax income in ways few Americans understand. So, in order for the income tax not to be unconstitutional it had to be written on a noncompulsory basis. However, in order to deceive Americans of this, as well as provide federal courts and the IRS with deceptive passages on which to hang illegal prosecutions and illegal seizures, the Internal Revenue Code was written to make paying income taxes appear mandatory. The government succeeded in doing this by tricking the public into believing that those enforcement provisions of the Code, that apply to other, non-voluntary taxes (such as alcohol and tobacco taxes), also apply to income taxes when in fact, they do not. However, despite such trickery, the IRS still admits that our "income tax laws"' are purely VOLUNTARY!"

In answer to your question is first another question???? Think seriously about what your asking and who your asking it to!! Or what actually...Ascreen in front of you that is supose to have all the answers to every one of our questions...Just GOOGLE it..Or YAHOO, please.. Don't just ask the questions, Demand answers..And your question is huge!!!!! The only (Law) about the federal income tax, is the word LAW...Its just as easy to write a lie down and place a government seal on it, infact its way more effective because its written, so therefore permanent...Americans (you and me) are in fact for the most part Smart...But we are only smart to what is written..Thats how we learn, we read..And even if we watch..What we watch was written..So that being said!!! Everything we read or watch we at first interprit as truth unless otherwise pronounced as false.... The very biggest Lie in existance is in fact the Truth... For example: Someone whom we claim as color blind...Are the colors that they see in fact false or true to them...they see our red as grey...So can perception be altered to fit... Very much so!!What I think and see is the truth...(Maybe not) ---Part 1.--
-
Part 2. What makes this lie (Federal income tax) the truth is simply "muscle"...I firmly believe that the ammendment was never ratified..But we think it was because they wrote it in a book and put a code on it...So therefore its a have to scenario..We do it, we live it and we actually think that thats what makes us free..Freedom has never been free...EVER. So I could go on forever but in conclusion. The only thing we're actualy free to do is Bitch and moan and complain..So we Vote, (electronicly) now. Which is another lie that we believe as truth.. And candidates are put there, not vollentarily...Its in there bloodlines, and it will continue to be like that until us Kings and Queens come together and change the so long unchanged...Its very easy. I hold your hand, You hold his hand, he holds her hand, and so on untill we are one voice screaming "We are ONE, now mess with us!!!! We say NO to your stealing from us...I'll be more than happy to stand with anyone who wants to stand....Let me know..I love each and every one of the amazing creatures called humans that inhabit this earth. We can be one heck of a force to recon with.... Thank you for the amazing question. Zachery Mantis (one voice)

There is not one in the USA, watched a video about this on Bedroommedia before it disappeared. So if you are prepared to fight it just ask them to point out the law so you can research your defence for your day in court.

yay someone answered your question. yeah, i'm guessing that would be a hard case to win. i'm sure they will make up some B.S.

Can someone specify to me, where I can find or locate the law, in black and white, that requires American citizens to pay taxes? Such as Federal income tax, etc.
-
While some will argue that U.S.C 26 was never put into positive law by the Legislature, it is a copy of the Internal Revenue Code which was enacted as positive law by the Legislature. Section 6012(a) of the Internal Revenue Code plainly states that “Returns with respect to income taxes under Subtitle A shall be made by the following: (1)(A) Every individual having for the taxable year gross income which equals or exceeds the exemption amount....” And Treas. Reg. § 1.6012-1(a)(6) provides that "Form 1040 is prescribed for general use in making the return required under this paragraph." So there you are, black and white. The argument that the 16th Amendment was not properly passed is a bogus argument. The 'changes' that each state made to the 'version' it passed were typos. Words were swapped out that had a similar meaning, mis-spellings, capitalization changes, punctuation changes. It wasn't like they had a word processor in 1913 for crying out loud. The government would have spent enormous resources back in that day if everything had to be exact. I ran into these arguments yesterday, that the 16th Amendment was never properly enacted, that there is no law requiring us to pay taxes, etc. At first I was lured into it, so I researched it. The claims are bunk and I'm pissed off that I wasted my time researching it. I am angered by how wasteful our government is and how much we pay in taxes, fees, licenses etc. (I estimate that it is 50% of my modest income.) Which is why I was lured into these conspiracy theories. I make think the tax system is unethical, but it is legal.

Originally, income taxes referred strictly to earned income, not wages. It has since evolved. Bottom line, if you refuse to adhere to IRS guidelines, you can go to prison. IRS is the only fed agency that has no oversight.
