It's not correct to say that Eastern Buddhism opposes it. There's no general rules laid down across the spectrum of Buddhist sects, and there's no "council of Buddhism" to enforce such things. Individual teachers and temples or centers have their own views, as do individual practitioners. The most general "precept" on the topic is some form of "don't abuse sex" -- i.e. don't do harm in that arena. The range of variations in views beyond that simple basis is vast.
