  • In Seattle, we had a DJ that would make Boeing references all the time. "It's 707, Boeing Time", "It's 727, Boeing time", "It's 737, Boeing time", etc for 7:47 and 7:57.
  • They probably want to avoid repetitions and think it is original.
  • Because, believe it or not, there are people who don't know what "23 minutes past the hour of 7" means. And there are probably a few that don't understand at "723", which it what it SOUNDS like, is actually "7:23". (It's also a second or so of "filler".)
  • Because it sounds less stupid than announcing the time twice. Morning radio listeners are rarely listening intently to the jock or morning crew so by saying it twice, even though they say it differently, you are more likely to hear it. Sure, it makes it seems like they love the sound of their own voice, but wouldn't you rather hear that than if they said it real slow like they were talking to someone that didn't speak the language.
