  • My son's 2001 Monte Carlo did the same thing. The problem was the front half shafts. The inner and outer joints were worn and loose. We replaced both of them and fixed the problem. To check, jack up one front wheel and with the car in park spin the wheel back and forth. If you hear any loud clicking or thunking noise it is bad. Do the same thing on the other side. LF shaft = $80 USD RF shaft $120 USD plus labor (we did it ourself but I work on cars for a living) Hope this helps.
