Of course, I think email is the less personal information one can give, so if you get an interesting person's email, that is great.

sure get to know them without the pressure of saying something dumb like telling a stupid joke sometimes i write emails and then take out half of what i was gonna say

I think it is perfectly fine to keep in touch via e-mails. This would only mean including another interesting person in my network of friends or acquaintances who share common passions and interests.
