Beyond a doubt. Their focus and attention to one thing is parallel to genius - people don't foster that talent in standardized education, as a result autistic people usually become ostracized and appear socially inept.

I would say it's definitely a form of intelligence. Very superior to a"normal" persons. The most well known living savant is a man called Kim Peek. http://www.mymultiplesclerosis.co.uk/misc/kimpeek.html Check him out on Youtube. His mind is truly amazing. I think the way we define intelligence is quite flawed. According to the way we define it, Kim Peek is retarded. Something wrong with that IMHO.
