I was stationed on Oahu for three years. It is beautiful. The cost of living is high, but if you don't shop near the tourist traps you will be fine. Somethings it doesn't matter where you shop though, milk for instance is considerably higher, and gas was about 20 cents higher per gallon there than in the mainland. The scenery is fantastic, in all the places Uncle Sam has sent me nothing else can compare. Cabin fever is a harsh reality though, if you cannot afford to fly back to the mainland or at least island hop, you might get bored. I would love to go back though. If I could live there again I gladly would.
