  • Christ means Messiah. Saying Christ Jesus means "the Messiah Jesus" and saying Jesus Christ means "Jesus the Messiah" theres really no reason other than personal preference for one over the other.
  • In response to Anonymous: Actually, the two words have the exact same meaning. Messiah comes from the Hebrew "mashiyach", which means anointed. Christ comes from the Greek "khris-tos", which also means anointed. To answer the original question, there is no difference and no reason other than their own personal preference.
  • to sound more interesting. the question was not about the definition of the word christ. it was why do ministers switch it up? same reason people say "dear heavenly father lord jesus christ" when they start their prayers. it's christianese. haha for the record i'm a christian but that doesn't mean i don't think we're hilarious/crazy sometimes.
  • Christ Jesus in our language means Messiag if you look it up in the Jewish commentaries & such... Christians call Jesus messiah despite the fact we aren't jews & consider him Lord over our lives...
  • The terms Jesus Christ and Christ Jesus are specific terms, the term Christ Jesus is distinctly related to identity, position and/or possession. The term Jesus Christ refers to the person Jesus, who is the Christ (messiah, anointed one). Most often in Scripture the term Christ Jesus is prefaced by the preposition "in", or is used in conjuction with a promise we have, or position we have that is found in "Christ Jesus". It is interesting to note that only Paul and Peter use the term "Christ Jesus". If you listen to ministers use these terms, you will probably note that they use the term "Christ Jesus" as an encompassing term that includes Christians within Christ Jesus. Jesus Christ in us, us in Christ Jesus. 2 Cor. 13:5
  • "Christ" means "anointed." So anointed Jesus or Jesus the anointed is really the same thing.
  • Christ Jesus emphasizes the title "Christ", while Jesus Christ emphasizes the person "Jesus".
