  • From what I've seen in countless nature videos and documentaries I believe most of them don't. They go for the silent approach. Roaring is used in other circumstances.
  • For the most part they do not roar and then chase their prey, as this would give away that they are there and hunting.
  • Before they spot their prey, if they can't find any, a lion will roar towards the ground to make the ground shake or vibrate. It will make some critters get scared and run out into the open.
  • Once they have stalked their prey, they usually ambush, not chase, and not all cats roar. They would do it for surprise and indimidation.
