  • Paper, more biodegradable, and better for the environment to recycle.
  • To make all the bags we use each year, it takes 14 million trees for paper and 12 million barrels of oil for plastic. The production of paper bags creates 70 percent more air pollution than plastic, but plastic bags create four times the solid waste — enough to fill the Empire State Building two and a half times. And they can last up to a thousand years. San Francisco is limiting consumers' freedom of choice, allowing only biodegradable plastic bags, which break down over months rather than hundreds of years. For both types of bags, the environmentalist mantra is the same — reuse and recycle. But the best choice, they say, is cloth or canvas, and BYOB — bring your own bags. http://www.enviroliteracy.org/article.php/1268.html
  • Plastic because I resuse them over and over for lunch bags, trash bags, tote bags, doggie poop bags... there are just endless uses!!! :))
  • If people would actually recycle their bags, then it wouldn't matter. But a lot of people still do not recycle, so I would say paper. Best of all is of course to bring your own bag.
  • It depends on the application. Paper is by far much better than plastic, when it comes to the environment. it decomposes faster than plastic. There is no pat answer here. Like i said, it depends on the application.
  • Neither!!! San fransisco actually just banned plastic bags. http://www.bagsnob.com/2007/05/us_launch_of_im_not_a_plastic.html Canvas re-usable bags are the best way to go! All grocery stores offer their own canvas bags for a small price.
  • I think both are very damaging to the environment so I bring my own bags. I can't pick one over the other.
  • Plastic is evil. I have become convinced of that and I'm trying to do my utmost to limit my use of them.
  • Recently in Ontario, or Toronto at least, we had to pay 5 cents per plastic bag--and a few of them have gotten bigger. Even before that, I'd grab the odd discared empty plastic bag I found. I suppose paper--brown paper--is better as it is renewable, but plastic has it's uses when the stuff you are carrying is soggy--even germy--and I'm often reusing plastic bags.
  • Paper. Biodegrades, one less demand on petroleum
  • PAPER --- plastic bags are evil and should be killed.
