There is no comparing eBay which is what something will bring at a public auction and selling something from a store. And there is nothing wrong with finding a real bargain and reselling it for what it is worth. If you found a nice lamp and realized it was worth much more than what you could buy it for, what? Are you going to tell the person to raise their price to $10,000 instead of getting it for $100? And then just because you bought it for $100, are you only going to sell it to cover you costs and make a little bit of money by selling it for $300? No, you'd sell it for it's value after much research. Most things seem to sell on average, for double what they paid for it but often the margin is much smaller if the area isn't a good plapce to sell a certain item. You may want to display a particular setting in your store and need one item to display. But you may have had to pay more for it than you expected. Then you can't sell if for high price if people in your are aren't into buying them. Prices are figured out by cost, expenses, how fast you want to move it, demand, so many things.
