Dentists use the old fashion eight way twist... First they inject an anascetic and then use a clamp style tool to twist the tooth out in a number 8 kind of style... it doesnt hurt with the right anascetic although you just feel a small amount of tugging, but no pain.. hope this helps

First they deaden the nerves and gums, then you feel pressure, (but no pain if done correctly) and it's out. Usually only takes a few seconds.

I had my wisdom teeth out only recently. With two of them, I'm pretty sure they just pulled. With the other two, they had to dig at the gums I think. Like palaeontologists do with bones. If you have general anaesthetic (as I did) the procedure itself won't hurt, it's the afterwards that hurts the most. The afternoon after they were taken out, I had no pain because I was still numb. After that, there was only a dull ache, but I could only eat soft foods. The only time it hurt a lot was in the mornings before I had the panadeine, and when the painkillers had worn off.
