Anyone here working in elderly care? How do you handle troublesome/almost violent dementia patients?

I have worked in the medical field with the elderly. I have even worked on a Gero-Psych floor in a hospital. I have had to deal with many inapropriate and violent patients(I have even been punched in the face by a 90 something gal with dementia!)How do I handle/deal? I remember that they are demented..and I do my best to have the same patience with them as I would a child..I also make sure to always treat them with respect..even when they are punching me.

I have worked in hospice for several years. Usually, when a demented patient becomes violent, they are put on an antipsychotic drug to control their outbursts. This is only if they are potentially dangerous to other residents and staff members.
