  • Continuous exposure to the full spectrum of the sun's rays will activate the melanin in you skin, causing you to tan. Light-skinned individuals burn in the first several initial trips outdoors (which can create layers of sunburn - OUCH!), then tan to varying degrees depending on what's in your gene pool (no pun intended). Unfortunately, burning evey year just to get tan has been strongly linked to skin cancer. Slather up, butter cup! An SPF of at least 30 is needed for those like us!
  • I don't go out in the sun afterwards as my sunburns always turn to a tan color and rarely peel or anything bad. But I don't tan on purpose. It's too dangerous.
  • I would think staying out of the sun would be a good idea if you're sun burned.
