Countries need friends, just like people need friends. If a time comes that you need a friend and you don't have any, things can get tough.

I like to believe that it is out of the sake of charity.

For Americans, charity. We may have a lot of issues in our country, but we are some of the most generous people on earth.

I think it's control and poor long term planning. I think it's about developing markets for our goods. Which is dumb because it generates competition for the resources for those goods. On the personal level I think it's about charity and wanting to be a good person.
